What is a square cushion cut diamond?
The square cushion is the classic form of the cushion cut, with a pillow-like outline, rounded corners and large brilliant facets that give strong fire. It looks balanced from every angle and is a natural choice for a halo ring, where the surrounding diamonds frame its shape.
How to choose a square cushion
Reading the ratio
The ratio is the diamond's length divided by its width, taken from the certificate measurements. A perfect square is 1.00, and up to 1.08 the eye still reads it as square. From 1.15 the length clearly shows, and those stones are in our elongated cushion search. Stones in between appear under all cushion cut diamonds.
Colour and clarity
G or H colour looks white in platinum or white gold, and VS2 or SI1 clarity is usually clean to the eye. Check the real photo for the faceting style: chunkier facets give a classic look, smaller ones a busier sparkle.
Square cushion vs princess cut
Both are square. A princess cut has sharp corners and a crisp, modern look; a square cushion has rounded corners, a softer outline and a more romantic, vintage feel.

Does a square cushion look good in a halo?
Yes. A halo of small diamonds follows its rounded outline and makes the centre stone look noticeably larger.
Where can I see slightly elongated cushions?
