Which metal is right for you?

The metal sets the colour of the ring and how it wears over the years. All our rings are made in 100% recycled, hallmarked metal.

Why platinum?

We use 950 platinum, hallmarked in the UK. It is about 95% pure, so it is naturally white all the way through and never needs re-plating. It is heavier than gold and very hard-wearing: rather than wearing away, the metal moves over time and takes on a soft satin look, which a quick polish brings back to a high shine. It is also the best choice if you have sensitive skin.

Why 18ct white gold?

18ct white gold is 75% pure gold, alloyed with white metals and finished with rhodium plating for a bright, mirror-white shine. It costs less than platinum and is lighter on the finger. As the plating wears, usually over a year or two, a hint of warmth can show; a quick re-plate brings it back. Want to spend less again? See our 9ct white gold engagement rings.

Why 18ct yellow gold?

18ct yellow gold is 75% pure gold, with the deep, warm colour people picture when they think of a gold ring. It is not plated, so the colour never fades. Some of our yellow gold designs hold the diamond in a white platinum head, so the stone looks as white as possible while the band stays golden. Yellow gold also flatters a slightly warmer diamond, so a stone in the H to J colour range can look just as good as a pricier, whiter one. Why 18ct rose gold?

18ct rose gold is 75% pure gold, warmed to a soft pink by a little copper in the alloy. It is not plated, so the colour never wears off, and it is slightly harder than yellow gold. Some of our rose gold designs set the diamond in a white platinum head for the whitest look, with the pink band around it. For a lower price, see our 9ct rose gold engagement rings.

What about 9ct gold?

9ct gold has less pure gold than 18ct, so it costs less and leaves more of your budget for the diamond. See 9ct gold engagement rings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Platinum. It is dense and moves rather than wearing away, so it keeps its weight and holds the diamond securely for decades.

Ideally, yes. Rings worn side by side wear each other down, and the same metal keeps that even. Our wedding ring designer makes plain bands in every metal.

No. The colour comes from the copper in the alloy, all the way through the metal, so there is no plating to wear off. If anything, rose gold warms slightly with age.

Usually every year or two, depending on how hard the ring is worn. Re-plating with rhodium takes a short visit to a jeweller and brings back the bright white finish.
