Eternity Builder guide

Design your own eternity ring online

The Eternity Builder lets you create your own diamond eternity ring in 3D. Choose how the diamonds are set, how many there are, how big they are and the metal, and the ring is rebuilt in front of you to fit your finger size. Turn it with your finger or mouse to see it from every side.

Every ring is made to order in our workshop from the design you build here, so the number of diamonds and their spacing are worked out for your exact size.

How to build your eternity ring

  1. Choose the setting. Channel, shared claw, four-claw, bar, rub-over, grain or micro pavé: how the diamonds are held.
  2. Choose how many diamonds. Five, seven or nine stones across the top, a half eternity, or a full eternity all the way round.
  3. Choose the diamond size and your finger size. Bigger stones make a bolder ring, and a full eternity is made to your exact size.
  4. Choose your metal. Platinum, or 18ct or 9ct white, yellow or rose gold.
  5. Choose natural or lab-grown diamonds. The price of your ring updates as you go; add it to your basket, or ask us anything on WhatsApp.

Eternity ring settings

Channel set

The diamonds sit in a channel between two walls of metal. It is the smoothest setting, with nothing to catch, and the ends of a half eternity can be square or rounded.

Shared claw

Each pair of claws holds two neighbouring diamonds, so the stones sit close together and more of each one shows. The most sparkle for the size.

Four-claw

Every diamond sits in its own four-claw setting, like a row of little solitaires. Classic, with plenty of light into each stone.

Bar set

Slim bars of metal between the diamonds hold them at the sides, leaving the top and the edges of each stone open to the light.

Rub-over

Each diamond sits in its own smooth collar of metal. Very secure, sleek to the touch and a good choice for an active life.

Grain set

The diamonds sit in a cut track and are held by small beads of metal raised between them. A fine, traditional finish.

Micro pavé

Diamonds set low and close together along a bright-cut edge, so the band looks like a line of light. Lovely for stacking.

Full eternity, half eternity or five stone?

A full eternity ring has diamonds all the way round: the most sparkle, but it is made to your exact size and cannot easily be resized. A half eternity ring has diamonds across the top and a plain band underneath, so it is comfortable next to an engagement ring and can be resized. Five, seven and nine stone rings keep the diamonds to the front for a lighter look.

Diamond size and carat weight

Eternity rings are described by the size of each diamond and the total carat weight. As a guide, a round brilliant diamond of 2.0mm weighs about 0.03ct, 2.5mm about 0.06ct, 2.75mm about 0.08ct and 3.0mm about 0.10ct. All our diamonds are natural unless you ask for lab-grown.

Platinum, 18ct or 9ct gold

Platinum is naturally white, dense and hard-wearing, the choice for a ring worn every day for life. 18ct gold comes in white, yellow and rose; 9ct gold gives the same colours at a lower price. Every ring is hallmarked.

Eternity Builder questions

Can I design my own eternity ring online?

Yes. Choose the setting, how many diamonds, the stone size, your finger size and the metal, and the 3D ring above is rebuilt with each choice. When you are happy with it, send us your design on WhatsApp and we will price it and make it for you.

What is the difference between a full and a half eternity ring?

A full eternity ring has diamonds all the way round. A half eternity ring has diamonds across the top half only, with a plain band underneath, so it is more comfortable next to other rings and can be resized later. See our full eternity rings and half eternity rings.

Can a full eternity ring be resized?

Not easily, because there are diamonds all the way round. That is why the builder asks for your finger size and makes the ring to fit. If you are unsure, order our free ring sizer first, or choose a half eternity, which can be resized.

Which eternity ring setting is best for everyday wear?

Channel set and rub-over settings are the smoothest, with no claws to catch on clothes. Shared claw and four-claw settings show the most of each diamond and give the most sparkle. Grain set and micro pavé sit low and suit a slim, stacking ring.

What size diamonds should I choose?

Each 2.0mm diamond is about 0.03ct, 2.5mm about 0.06ct, 2.75mm about 0.08ct and 3.0mm about 0.10ct. Bigger stones make a wider, bolder ring with fewer diamonds; smaller stones make a finer ring.

Which metal should I choose?

Platinum is naturally white, dense and hard-wearing. 18ct gold comes in white, yellow and rose; 9ct gold gives the same colours at a lower price. If you wear an engagement ring, matching its metal keeps the two rings looking right together.

How long does it take to make an eternity ring?

Every Eternity Builder design is made to order in our workshop and hallmarked. We will confirm the time when we price your ring; most take 3 to 4 weeks.

Can I have lab-grown diamonds or coloured stones?

Yes. Tell us when you send your design. We set natural or lab-grown diamonds, and sapphires, rubies and other coloured stones (see our coloured stone eternity rings).
